Reader FAQ

Not sure which book to pick up next? Here are the questions readers ask most — and the books that answer them.

Which Jennifer M. Eaton book should I read first?

Start with Renegade Magic, book 1 of the Star Bandits: Uprising space opera series. It introduces Cal, a smuggler on the run from a death sentence for a crime he didn't commit, and Dania, the powerful mage enforcer his crew accidentally kidnaps. It was an international bestseller, reaching the top 5 in Australia on release.

What is the reading order for the Star Bandits: Uprising series?

The series reads in this order: 1. Renegade Magic, 2. Renegade Thief, 3. Renegade Storm, 4. Renegade Legacy, 5. Renegade Guardian, 6. Renegade Crown. Each book follows the crew of the Star Renegade, so reading them in order is recommended.

What books are like Guardians of the Galaxy, Firefly, or The Expanse?

Star Bandits: Uprising is pitched as Guardians of the Galaxy meets The Expanse, Firefly, and Robin Hood — a small crew of smugglers who use their profits to feed the hungry while dodging galactic law enforcement. If you want a standalone, Starlight is Guardians of the Galaxy meets Avatar: a rookie pilot sent to rescue a lost hero who isn't sure he wants to be saved.

Do you have a space opera with action and witty banter?

That's exactly what Jennifer writes: action, adventure, and witty banter. The Star Bandits: Uprising series follows one small crew against the galaxy, in a world where there's no fine line between right and wrong. Starlight is a standalone space adventure in the same spirit.

Do you have a book with dragons or a dragon shifter romance?

Dragon Mount is a dragon shifter adventure. Anna, on a trip to New Zealand, is snatched by a dragon and dropped into a bloodthirsty battle for the Draconic crown. It's recommended for fans of Jennifer L. Armentrout and the shape-shifting of Talon. It first debuted in the Sirens and Scales anthology and is now available on its own.

Is there an Aladdin retelling told from the villain's point of view?

Yes — How to Kill a Street Rat is told by the sorcerer, the most powerful in the world, who is determined to win the princess and the throne… until a 'prince' who is really a street rat shows up with a genie. It was a finalist for the Romance Writers of America Carolyn Reader's Choice Award for Excellence in Paranormal Romance. Sorcerer's Reign, a signed Kickstarter limited edition with full-color art, is another tale where a classic hero and villain change places.

Do you write young adult science fiction or fantasy?

The Fire in the Woods trilogy (Fire in the Woods, Ashes in the Sky, Embers in the Sea) is young adult contemporary science fiction about Jess, a military brat, and David, an injured alien hiding in the New Jersey woods. Warden Fall is a YA fantasy about a girl whose wishes start coming true — at a price — for fans of Jennifer L. Armentrout and The Mortal Instruments.

Do you have an adult thriller with aliens?

Invaded is an adult contemporary thriller (not young adult): four people, two bodies, one nightmare. A detective who has hosted an alien entity for five years suspects a car-crash survivor now carries one too — just as a serial killer begins stalking their South Jersey town.

Do you have a Christmas or holiday romance?

Paper Wishes is an enchanting sweet romance to warm your heart in any season. Jill has given up on Christmas wishes — but Christmas wishes have a way of coming true, even when you don't know what you've wished for.

Can I buy signed copies of Jennifer's books?

Why can't I find the Fire in the Woods series in stores?

Was Warden Fall published under a different title?

Is Sirens and Scales still available?
