Faye Bird worked as a literary agent representing film and television screenwriters before becoming a writer herself. She is the author of My Second Life and What I Couldn’t Tell You. She lives in London with her husband, two children and one very fluffy cat
Fifteen-year-old Ana has a good life–she has friends and a boy she likes and a kind mother–but still, she’s haunted by her past; she knows that she lived once before as a girl named Emma, and she still misses her old family. When, by chance in her life now, Ana meets a woman she knew in her previous life, a terrifying memory flashes through her mind of a young girl drowning. Was Emma responsible? And should Ana pay the price? Consumed by guilt, Ana sets out to find out as much as possible about the person she was before and what she had done, only to discover that the family she misses so deeply had dark secrets of its own. To come to terms with her life now, Ana must figure out how to let go of the past.
To be perfectly honest, I’ve been writing in the Dragonrider Chronicles world for so long now, it’s harder not to let my mind go there! It’s become a comfort zone for me, because I’m so familiar with the landscape and history. Writing about that world feels like coming home. So I was very excited to get to shed new light and breathe new life into it with a different perspective.
Changing the angle of focus to the lives and culture of the elves seemed like the logical transition since so much of the first series revolved around the human way of life in their kingdom. So I’m taking us back there, but on a different path, to see that world from a completely different viewpoint.
I was not prepared for how hard it would be to write the sequel to Emerge. The plot wasn’t difficult; I’d known the storyline of Submerge (and of Book 3, Immerse) since before my agent and I went on submission with the series. In fact, the finished novel that’s coming out this week lines up almost exactly with that outline because the paths these characters needed to travel have always been very clear to me. What I struggled with was the shift from being a writer to being a professional author.
Writing Submerge was therefore a completely different experience than writing Emerge. With Book 1, I wrote on my own schedule and had no one to answer to but myself. I knew very little about the publishing industry at that point and just wrote what I wanted to read without a consideration for how marketable a specific idea was, what I would say about a certain plot point on a panel, what would sell, etc.
There is a space ship throttling toward a civilian institution and no one can hail the pilot. Another ship appears that seems to be chasing him. We see the second pilot trying to get the first pilot to give up, and we also see the space-equivalent to an air-traffic controller trying to get the other ships out of the way to reduce the body count if there is a crash.
Today we are welcoming authors from the Fantasy Anthology “Braving the elements”, listing their top five things that bring a character or a new fantasy world to life.
come to her rescue, but getting her out of England in one piece is going to be harder than they expected.
Our main characters are all about 17 years old. They are normal kids attending school, but every once in a while a phone rings, someone speaks some keywords, and these kids are hypnotized into triggering skills they don’t know they had, and they are forced to assassinate people. Once the job is done, they forget and return to their everyday lives. Such a creepy premise!
Roll over?! Pun intended? Haha.
I was at the tail end of writing Must Love Wieners when my partner came into my life, along with his three wonderful kids and, get this, two wiener dogs (they look weirdly similar to the two in the book).

A wedding Tale, book three of A Rescue Dog Romance series is out now!
